About Progress Peak:
Progress Peak Adventures is a small trans-owned non-profit based out of Jenkintown, PA. Established in 2025, Progress Peak offers recreational activities that challenge and empower folks to get out of their comfort zone and hone their skills while providing a therapeutic space to be accepted as they are. We hope that through our thoughtful programming, youth, young adults, and families have a space where they can comfortably try new things, pick up new hobbies, build a community, be mentally and physically stronger, and reduce the impacts of trauma within our communities.
Carson (he/him) founded Progress Peak Adventures in 2025. In his day job, Carson is a Mental Health Clinician and is currently pursuing a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Credential. He graduated with his M.S. in Community and Trauma Counseling, Childhood Trauma, and Play Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in 2021. Carson, who is a queer and transgender man, had always felt uncomfortable and uninvited in activities that tested his physical and/or mental abilities. After a summer away at camp in Rhinebeck, New York, Carson found himself in his element at camp. Because of his experience, he became passionate about combining recreation with physical and mental wellness.
Progress Peak has been an idea in the making for many years. After his summer away, Carson wanted to combine his expertise in mental health and his passion for recreation and challenging himself. Progress Peak Adventures is the beginning of that dream. In the future, Carson hopes that Progress Peak can have a physical location for folks to convene, and possibly a traditional overnight summer camp for LGBTQ+ adults, youth, and families. Carson hopes that Progress Peak will provide folks with a chosen family that encourages them to try new and challenging things in a non-judgmental and beginner-friendly environment. All of our events are planned to ensure equitable success regardless of disability, neurodivergence, and/or minority status.
While the uncertainty we face in this country is stressful, Progress Peak wants to be here to support you all. We are currently in a tight spot where we are unable to pursue governmental grant funding for our programs. Therefore, as a way of fundraising, Progress Peak is offering a line of merchandise. Sales from this campaign will be collected and used for the following:
- Startup costs
- Brand design
- Legal support
- Merchandise for outreach and participants
- Staff identification and uniforms
- Scholarship fund to provide folks who cannot afford programming with an opportunity to participate
- General business maintenance fees
BONUS: You get to feel good about supporting a trans-led owner and his small non-profit with BIG dreams!
